Hawthorne is a 1.1-square-mile hamlet in the Town of Mount Pleasant, sitting near the geographic center of Westchester County where the Sprain Brook Parkway bisects the community and Commerce Street runs parallel to the Metro-North Harlem Line tracks. The hamlet was renamed in honor of Rose Hawthorne Lathrop, daughter of author Nathaniel Hawthorne, who founded a home for terminally ill cancer patients in neighboring Thornwood in 1901.
