The Town of Mount Pleasant spans 32.7 square miles of central Westchester County, from the Hudson River on its western edge to the Kensico Reservoir on the east. It contains more distinct communities than almost any other town in Westchester — the incorporated village of Pleasantville with its Victorian homes and walkable downtown centered on the Jacob Burns Film Center; the village of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving's fabled river town on the Hudson with the Old Dutch Church, Philipsburg Manor, and the Rockefeller family's extraordinary Kykuit estate in adjacent Pocantico Hills; the institutional hamlet of Valhalla with Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College, and Kensico Dam Plaza; and the residential hamlets of Thornwood and Hawthorne, which have their own distinct postwar suburban character.
