Yorktown is a town of 40 square miles on the northern border of Westchester County, incorporated in 1788 and named to commemorate the decisive Franco-American victory at Yorktown, Virginia on October 19, 1781 — when the town was still called Hanover, a name residents abandoned for its association with the British crown. The area's Revolutionary War history runs deep: the Pines Bridge crossing of the Croton River was guarded late in the war by the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, an integrated unit of White, African American, and Native American soldiers, where Colonel Christopher Greene was killed on May 14, 1781. Major John André, the British spy who communicated with Benedict Arnold, ate his final breakfast in Yorktown at the Underhill House before his capture. The Croton River, which runs through the town's southern portion, was dammed to provide New York City with its first major clean water supply — the first Croton Dam was in Yorktown, and it broke catastrophically in 1842. Today nearly all of Yorktown's 40 square miles lies within the Croton Watershed, which limits high-density development and preserves the rolling wooded character that defines the town.
Meridian Contracting has served Yorktown and the surrounding northern Westchester communities for more than 25 years. We're a family-owned business based in Yonkers. Yorktown's five business hamlets — Yorktown Heights, Crompond, Jefferson Valley, Mohegan Lake, and Shrub Oak — each have their own residential character, but share the common maintenance conditions of the northern Westchester landscape: wooded lots with heavy deciduous canopy, rolling terrain that affects drainage, limited watershed development protections that keep the town more open and wooded than comparable communities in southern Westchester, and a predominantly postwar housing stock from the 1950s through 1980s now at comprehensive replacement age on roofing, siding, and chimney systems.

Leak repair, flashing, storm damage, inspections, and maintenance plans for Yorktown's postwar colonials, ranches, split-levels, and newer construction across all five hamlets.

Full replacements and new installations for Yorktown's varied housing stock across Yorktown Heights, Crompond, Jefferson Valley, Mohegan Lake, and Shrub Oak.

Cleaning, installation, replacement, and guards for Yorktown's wooded residential lots where fall deciduous canopy generates significant debris loads.

Vinyl, fiber cement, and wood siding for Yorktown's postwar homes, where original aluminum siding from the 1950s-1970s is past its useful life on many properties.
Yorktown’s position largely within the Croton Watershed shapes its exterior maintenance environment in two ways. First, watershed protections that limit high-density development have preserved more open land, rolling wooded terrain, and deciduous forest cover than comparable communities in more developed southern Westchester — which means heavier canopy debris loads on roofs and gutters, more frequent branch impacts on properties adjacent to preserved land, and more active moss and algae growth on shaded roof surfaces than in drier, more open suburban settings. Second, the Croton River watershed and its network of reservoirs and tributaries creates lower-lying areas throughout the town with elevated groundwater during wet periods, which affects downspout routing and drainage planning on affected properties.
Yorktown’s housing stock is primarily postwar — colonials, ranches, and split-levels from the 1950s through 1980s that are now 40-70 years old and at or approaching comprehensive replacement age on their original exterior systems. Original aluminum siding, original gutter systems with inadequate pitch, 50-70 year old chimney mortar, and original low-standard ventilation on ranch and split-level rooflines are the most common subjects of replacement conversations across all five hamlets.

Yes — watershed protections preserve more open wooded land throughout the town, which creates heavier canopy debris loads on roofs and gutters and more active moss growth on shaded surfaces than in more developed communities.
